Let’s Get Started.
Howdy.
Truth be told, I don’t know where this will go and I think that’s okay.
If I had to liken it to something, it would be a diary but the entry itself is generally not the point. While I do enjoy writing, and ranting, I try to avoid saying what has already been said. Marketers went to war with each other over search relevancy, crowding web2 with duplicative content while the model they demanded perceive the intent of a query got closer to having everything the user needs. And, it’s finally doing exactly what we designed it to do.
So, what does that mean? Content strategy is still relevant, perhaps more so, but we don’t need to waste time with reinvention in the pursuance of ranking. Focusing on what is supplementary to the project, idea, thought, etc., that doesn’t exist elsewhere (or at minimum, the path of least resistance to the information) is plenty. And, I’ll do my best to keep that in mind.
So, where are we at?
Good question! The starting line.
I bought this domain (Budulup) awhile back because I like the way it sounds and thought it might be useful some day. Here we are.
Beyond domain registration and initial website set-up (thanks, Squarespace!) I’ve put together an initial Kanban board for myself using Trello. It could be better, but that doesn’t matter right now. For now, the priority is laying the groundwork for knowing what is done and what is next. It should enable interesting data and automation projects in the future - Trello is integrated with Zapier, which could act as a bridge to many other tools I expect to be interesting later.
The prioritization of work is based on an incredibly complex formula. In laymen terms it could be summarized as, “What looks like the most fun?”
I expect there will be projects within projects and iterations will be, well, iterative. Taxonomy set-up, for example, will be an initial discovery and expanded as the initial content strategy is “finalized”. I’ll write about what I learn, implement here (probably in a few different ways) with projections on what it enables. While in a professional setting I would look for more predictability and I can already hear someone shouting “wHeREs YoUR wORKing AgreEmeNT”, this is all just fun and games here. Maybe my next post will be about how that was a bad idea. Either way, it’s momentum.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading, mom.
